چکیده

A graphical framework is used for statistical analysis of the results from an extensive Nversion test of a collection of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics codes. The solutions were obtained by code developers and users from North America, Europe, Asia, and South America using both common and custom grid sequencees as well as multiple turbulence models for the June 2016 6 AIAA CFD Drag Prediction Workshop sponsored by the AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Technical Committee. The aerodynamic configuration for this workshop was the Common Research Model subsonic transport wingbody previously used for both the 4 and 5 Drag Prediction Workshops. This work continues the statistical analysis begun in the earlier workshops and compares the results from the grid convergence study of the most recent workshop with previous workshops.

Analysis of Low-Speed Stall Aerodynamics of a Swept Wing with Laminar-Flow Glove

Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was conducted to study the low-speed stall aerodynamics of a GIII aircraft’s swept wing modified with a laminar-flow wing glove. The stall aerodynamics of the gloved wing were analyzed and compared with the unmodified wing for the flight speed of 120 knots and altitude of 2300 ft above mean sea level (MSL). The S...

DEVELOPMENT OF A PELLET SCALE MODEL FOR TRICKLE BED REACTOR USING CFD TECHNIQUES

In this study, a pellet scale model was developed for trickle bed reactor utilizing CFD techniques. Drag coefficients were calculated numerically at different velocities and bulk porosities in the case of single phase flow through the dry bed. The simulation results were then compared with the prediction of Kozeny-Carman (K-C) equation. The results indicated that drag coefficients calculated fr...

About the Generation of Unstructured Mesh Families for Grid Convergence Assessment by Mixed Meshes

Abstract. This work describes properties of the mixed mesh approach that are especially suitable for generating families of meshes to assess the grid refinement convergence of CFD solvers. The paper outlines how a regular grid refinement is achieved throughout the domain. The distributions of characteristic grid quality metrics are compared and a grid convergence study is outlined for a commonl...

AIAA 2003-4240 Uncertainty Propagation for Turbulent, Compressible Flow in a Quasi-1D Nozzle Using Stochastic Methods

This paper describes a fully spectral, Polynomial Chaos method for the propagation of uncertainty in numerical simulations of compressible, turbulent flow, as well as a novel stochastic collocation algorithm for the same application. The stochastic collocation method is key to the efficient use of stochastic methods on problems with complex nonlinearities, such as those associated with the turb...
